On Sunday 27th October, Dates-n-Mates Aberdeen took part in the Grampian Winter Pride Parade. We celebrated all the way from the top of Union Street right down to the bottom and ended the day with a spot of lunch in the city centre afterwards.
Our members were delighted to take part in the parade, especially after all the lockdown restrictions lately! Dates-n-Mates has previously taken part in the Celebrate Aberdeen parades too – we love them!
We also love to support and celebrate the Grampian Pride events with our members – having held an information stall and attended previous year’s events. Grampian Pride is brought to Aberdeen by Four Pillars LGBT+ Charity, in partnership with various organisations across Grampian. Event Manager and CEO, Deejay Bullock has also connected with us at our activites including delivering an LGBT+ awareness virtual chat to Dates-n-Mates members.
Dates-n-Mates are proud to be a diverse and inclusive project, that celebrates relationships for everyone. This is something that our members feel passionate about too, so they were so pleased to take part in our local pride event again this year.
“What I liked about Grampian Pride is that it brought everyone together and it’s a great way to meet new people from all walks of life. It was really fun, and it was nice to do something different.” – Member, Richard
We sang and danced the day away at the parade and if you happened to hear anyone chanting; “Dates and Mates… Dates and Mates!!”
Then it was probably us!
“I had lots of fun. I saw my friends from Dates-n-Mates, but I also saw lots of other friends from different groups too. I enjoyed singing and dancing with the other members. I did have sore feet by the end of the day, but it was definitely worth it. I had a brilliant day with lots of laughing.” – Member, Liz
We ensure that we take part in a variety of different activities and events here at Dates-n-Mates. We are always listening to our members and taking on board what they would like to do. Grampian Pride was something that our members were really keen to support and attend… what a fantastic time we all had! Fingers crossed, there are no more lockdown’s that prevent us coming together for amazing events like this again in the future!
