Dates-n-Mates Members Come Together for Inter-Regional “Common Wealth” Sports Day
On Tuesday 28th July, Dates-n-Mates members from Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk came together at Bellahouston Sports Centre for an exciting Inter-Regional Sports Day, celebrating the spirit of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The event was made possible thanks to generous funding from the Glasgow Festival 2026 Commonwealth Fund, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be!
From the moment members arrived, there was a real buzz of excitement as teams mixed with people from different regions, many meeting for the very first time. The day was all about friendship, teamwork, participation and having fun, with everyone encouraged to support one another and give every activity a go.
Members took part in a wide range of sporting challenges, including archery, bean bag toss, bowls, basketball, balancing bean bag races, and plenty of other fun team games. Laughter, encouragement and cheering could be heard throughout the day as everyone celebrated each other’s achievements.

One of the highlights was the smoothie bikes, where members pedalled to blend delicious healthy fruit smoothies.
Not only did this get everyone moving, but it also sparked some friendly competition to see who could power their smoothie the fastest!
At Dates-n-Mates, we know that sport isn’t just about winning—it’s about building confidence, making friends and feeling part of something. Throughout the day, members worked together, encouraged one another and demonstrated fantastic teamwork, proving that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Every participant received a commemorative medal to recognise their effort and enthusiasm, while the winning team proudly took home rosettes. We also presented a number of special awards including Best Sportsmanship, Best Team Player, Best Helper, and other awards recognising kindness, encouragement and positive attitudes throughout the day.
The Sports Day was much more than a sporting event. It gave members the opportunity to build new friendships across different regions, strengthen existing connections and enjoy being active in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Seeing members laughing together, supporting each other and celebrating everyone’s successes was a wonderful reminder of what Dates-n-Mates is all about!
A huge thank you goes to the Glasgow Festival 2026 Commonwealth Fund for making this event possible. Thank you to Glasgow Life for their assistance on the day and all of our volunteers, supporters and staff who helped the event run so smoothly.
Another big thank you to our photographer Joss who captured the day so perfectly!
